Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, Chancellor established Symbiosis for the benefit of international students and based it on the principles of Vedic thought of "World as One Family". He conceived this idea long back when “ Internationalization” had not become the norm for the Indian Universities.
Symbiosis Law School’s tryst with Erasmus started in 2005 with the visit of A DELEGATION from Leibniz University, Hanover, Germany. The visit culminated in a long lasting and strong relationship and eventually resulting in SLS Pune becoming a partner in the consortium. The programme known as the Erasmus Mundus Programme International Legal studies-EU 2004-0019-001.
The programme was coordinated by Leibniz University, Hanover, Germany and the other European Universities were Le Havre, France, Rouen University, France, Lisboa University, Portugal and also non-european universities which included: Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, UniplacBarsilia University, Brazil, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, Xian, China
Three faculty members under this consortium availed the Erasmus Grant to undertake teaching and research during 2008-2009 and 2011.
