Eurasia Track at the 7th Annual International Research Conference

Symbiosis Law School, Pune hosted the 7th Annual International Research Conference and introduced a special track on “Panel Discussion on Common Challenges and Converging Perspectives in Europe and Asia”.

The Panel was presided by Dr. Rajendra Kumar Jain, Centre for European Studies, School of International Studies, JNU, Delhi as the Chair, Prof. Dr. Galina, Rousseva-Sokoloca, Associate Professor, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Sofia University, Bulgaria, Dr. Daniela Irrera, Professor of Political Science and International Relations, University of Catania, Italy and President of the European Peace Research Association (EuPRA), Dr. Natasza Styczyńska, Assistant Professor, European Studies; and Chair of Culture and Society in Europe Jagiellonian University, Poland. The session had Dr. Rajendra Kumar Jain speaking on European Studies in India, Dr. Galina then introduced the Eurasia Project as well as spoke on India in the Writings of the European Philosophers, followed by Dr. Daniela Irrera who spoke on The Impact of informal actors in the EU anticorruption policies: The case of Western Balkans, Dr.Natasza spoke on the “ Contestation of the EU Enlargement Policy in the European Parliament.” and Dr. Clemens Arzt Director of Research Institute of Public andPrivate Security, Berlin School of Economics and Law, Germany, spoke on Rule of Law andPolice—India, Namibia, Germany and the U.SA : A Comparative Aspect.

Dr. Rajendra Jain looks on during the discussions

Prof.(Dr.) Rajendra Jain delivering his address on ‘European Studies in India’. He explained that Europe, in light of various crises, is re-evaluating the way it looks at itself and the world, thereby also changing the way India looks at Europe. The financial crises, immigration problems and terrorist attacks have left in their wake a more aggressive, nationalist Europe that stands averse to globalization. Dr. Jain subsequently spoke about the effects of such a Europe on the world at large and India in particular.

Prof. Galina, Rousseva-Sokoloca, Associate Professor, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Sofia University, addresses the Conference Prof. Galina discussed the underlying objective and vision behind the Eurasia Project of which Symbiosis Law School is a participant. She stated that the idea of the project is to enhance the visibility of European Concept in Asian Academia. She mentioned that as a part of this it would be necessary to make one cultural universe understandable and work for the benefit of another. Prof. Galina said, “The inherent purpose herein is to strength the dialogue between Europe and Asia and encourage collaboration through academia.”Dr. Gaina then spoke on India in the Writings of the European Philosophers

Dr. Daniel Irrera, spoke about the ‘Impact of Informal Actors in the EU anticorruption policies: The case of Western Balkans.’ Herein Dr. Irrera stressed on the importance of the role played by informal actors by discussing the needs of good governance and the principles of a rule of system in this context. She further emphasized that while global organizations for the same play a key role, peacekeeping should be adapted to local institutions, which, though not westernized, prove to be more effective.

Dr. NatazaStyczynska, the nest panelist speaker, discussed the ‘Contestation of the EU Enlargement Policy in the European Parliament.’ She elaborated on the same by analyzing the criteria to become a member of the EU and the principles followed for the same. She also discussed role of rule of law in the current context.
